Are you interested in becoming a volunteer? Great! We need you! Hyacinth’s success depends on its hundreds of dedicated and compassionate volunteers. The people, like you, who give their time, financial resources, and energy support our ability to assist so many clients every year.
All volunteers are provided with necessary training. Applicant interests, availability, and skills, as well as our needs, determine volunteer placement.
Special events and fund-raising
Hyacinth sponsors special events every year to raise money for the benefit of people affected by HIV/AIDS. Volunteers are needed in the development office during regular office hours, Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The responsibilities of the volunteers include:
Work with staff to plan and organize events, such as the AIDS Walk, the Annual Gala & Silent Auction, as well as theater, wine, and food events.
Participate in public relations planning and media outreach.
Experience and time commitments vary. For more information on how to volunteer, please e-mail Rose Sanchez at firstname.lastname@example.org or call (732) 246-0204.
Legal services (attorneys or paralegals)
Hyacinth has an extensive network of trained volunteer attorneys. These lawyers offer free assistance to people with HIV/AIDS who are not able to afford legal counsel. Because it is important for an HIV-positive client to know his/her legal rights and entitlements, volunteers provide counseling services, legal information, support, and referrals.
Hyacinth invites attorneys and paralegals to join our pro bono legal service program. In association with the New Jersey State Bar Foundation, we offer volunteer attorney training workshops at the New Jersey Law Center in New Brunswick, New Jersey.
Some administrative support positions are available in Hyacinth’s legal department. For more information on how to volunteer, please e-mail Rose Sanchez at email@example.com or call (732) 246-0204.
Administrative positions are available in each of Hyacinth’s regional and project offices. Volunteers assist Hyacinth staff in the administration and development of projects such as marketing materials, telephone surveys, information gathering, research, fund-raising, outreach, and HIV training, as well as with the day-to-day administrative responsibilities of Hyacinth offices. Writing skills, computer literacy, desktop publishing experience, and effective telephone communication skills are helpful. Daytime availability is generally necessary. Hyacinth’s office hours are 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
